At Monday Morning Meeting, students share why they believe school is important. Second-grade visits first grade to share the small moment stories they are writing. During Discovery Reading, students ask questions and record their wonderings on sticky notes. Baking soda plus vinegar makes carbon dioxide gas! First-graders have been learning how to become critical thinkers when reading and writing. This past week, students met with their eighth-grade buddies to show them how much progress they have made. These Buddy Partners are a unique combination: Ajah from from first-grade reads to her eighth-grade brother, Breyon. There are times when a student makes great strides to take one's work seriously because he/she is determined to succeed. Alexi's goal in the beginning of the year was to be able to read a book. Here, students are congratulating Alexi after showing significant improvement on her assessment. Friday Dance Party is something students start talking about on Wednesday! An original table dance to celebrate where the learning happens! Proud to be DGS Dragons!
First-graders are introduced to learning stations. Students are divided into groups and complete specific and different tasks during twenty minute rotations. Having groups of students at the rainbow table gives the teacher an opportunity to spend time working with targeted instruction. We harvested radishes this week! See below for the thumbs up and thumbs down votes. Who liked the radishes? Ms. Lutz visits first grade. Her efforts to beautify our outdoor commons continues. First grade learns what happens when they plant flower bulbs. Students learn how plants absorb water during Science. Using red colored water, we saw how the water travels from roots to leaves of celery. Some Friday fun! Students enjoy creating paper pumpkins and face painting.
